Criterion for Evaluation of Continuous Assessment (CA), End Term Theory Exam(ETE)
& End Term Practical/ Project Exam (ETP)

1.0 Category of Courses: From the perspective of examination, all the courses can be divided in three broad categories:

  • Courses with only theory component
  • Courses with only practical component
  • Courses with both theory and practical component
  • Courses with only Project component

Scheme of evaluation varies with each category of course. Depending upon the category of courses, different exam weightages are assigned to all the courses.

Category of Course
Exam Weightage
CA* ETE** ETP***
Courses with only theory component 20% 80% NA
Courses with only practical component 20% NA 80%
Courses with both theory and practical component 20% 60% 20%
Courses with only project component NA NA 100%

At the time of evaluation, along with exam weightages, credits assigned to each course define the scheme of evaluation of continuous assessment.

*CA means Continuous Assessment and is evaluated through assignments.
**ETE means End Term Theory Examination- Pattern for the same is given at point 3.
***ETP means End Term Practical/ Project Examination- Pattern for the same is given at point 4 & 5.

Criterion for evaluation of continuous assessment: Through continuous assessment, students are evaluated throughout the semester/year. To assess the performance of students continuously, faculty members from university give them home assignments. Students are evaluated on the basis of their performance in the home assignments. Scheme of evaluation of home assignments through continuous assessment (CA) is detailed below:

Credits assigned to a course Number of assignments per course (on the basis of credits) Maximum Marks for each assignment Pattern of Assignments Basis of Evaluation
Upto 06 credits (4 credits and 6 credits) 2 20 Total three questions would be there
Q1: 10 Marks (having 5 sub-parts of 02 marks each)
Q2: 5 Marks
Q3: 5 Marks
Student will submit 02 assignments. Marks will be considered of 01 best assignment out of 02 assignments submitted by the student.
Courses with more than 06 credits (Courses with 8 credits) 3 10 Total three questions would be there
Q1: 3 Marks
Q2: 3 Marks
Q3: 4 Marks
Student will submit 03 assignments.Marks will be considered of 02 best assignments out of 03 assignments submitted by the student

Structure of End Term Theory Exam: Irrespective of category of course (Purely Theory or Theory + Practical), pattern of theory exam would be same for all the courses.Maximum marks for each theory exam would be 80.

Maximum Marks 80
Duration 3 hours

3.1 Structure of end term theory question paper:

Question Paper will be divided in two parts, viz. Part-A & Part-B

Part A: Short questions (no choice):

  • It will contain short answer type questions.
  • Each question will carry 02 marks.
  • Student is required to attempt all 10 questions.

Part B: Long questions (with choice), 06 out of 10 questions:

  • It will contain long answer type questions.
  • Each question will carry 10 marks.
  • Student is required to attempt any 06 questions out of 10.

4.0 Structure of End Term Practical/ Project Exam (Except for the practical courses belonging to Library & Information Sciences programmes):

Structure of end term practical exam will remain same irrespective of weightage assigned to the courses.

4.1 Structure of end term practical question paper:

The components of Evaluation for ETP are as under:
S. No. Component Allocated marks
Maximum Marks 20*
1. Written 10
2. Execution 5
3. Viva Voce 5
*In case ETP is of 80 marks, then marks obtained out of 20 shall be prorated to get the marks obtained out of 80.
  • For evaluation of written component, the allocation key i.e. question paper will have two questions and student will be required to attempt only one question out of them.
  • For the evaluation of Execution component, student is required to perform the practical allocated to him/her.
  • For evaluation of Viva Voce, the examiner shall ask questions related to the course from the student.

4.2 Structure of end term project exam:

The components of Evaluation for Project are as under:
S. No. Component Allocated marks
Maximum Marks 20*
1. Report 10
2. Job Evaluation/Presentation 5
3. Viva Voce 5
*As maximum marks of Project are 100, the marks obtained out of 20 shall be prorated to get the marks obtained out of 100.
  • For evaluation of first component, the hard copy of the project report shall be evaluated by the examiner. Format of the project report is made available on students e-Connect log-in as per the following path: e-Resources -- -- -- Shared Folder-- -- -Examination- -- -Format of Project Report
  • For the evaluation of second component i.e. Job Evaluation/Presentation, student is required to present a Power Point Presentation on the topic.
  • For evaluation of Viva Voce, the examiner shall ask questions related to the report and the power point presentation.

5.0 Examination pattern for End Term Practical (ETP) for Library & Information Sciences Courses

For practical courses based on Classification i.e. DLIS004, DLIS106 and DLIS403 pattern stated below shall be followed:

S.No. Course Code Course Title Type No. of Questions* Max. Marks
1. DLIS 004 KNOWLEDGE ORGANIZATION: CLASSIFICATION PRACTICE Theory 4 4*10=40
2. DLIS 106 LIBRARY CLASSIFICATION PRACTICE Theory 4 4*10=40
3. DLIS 403 ADVANCED CLASSIFICATION PRACTICE Theory 4 4*10=40
*All questions are Compulsory. In case ETP is of 80 marks, then marks obtained out of 40 shall be prorated to get the marks obtained out of 80.

For practical courses based on Cataloguing i.e. DLIS005, DLIS107 and DLIS404 pattern stated below shall be followed:

S.No. Course Code Course Title Type No. of Questions*
Marks=Max. Marks **
1. DLIS005 KNOWLEDGE ORGANIZATION:CATALOGUING PRACTICE Theory 10*2=20
10*6=60
2. DLIS107 LIBRARY CATALOGUING PRACTICE Theory 10*2=20
10*6=60
3. DLIS404 ADVANCED CATALOGUING PRACTICE Theory 10*2=20
10*6=60
**All questions of 2 Marks are Compulsory. Out of 10 questions of 10 marks each, 6 questions have to be attempted.

Important:

  • End Term Practical (ETP) for 6 Library Sciences Courses (DLIS004, DLIS005, DLIS106, DLIS107, DLIS403, and DLIS404) are conducted in the Examination Centers where Theory-End Term Examination (ETE) are conducted.
  • Students enrolled in Diploma in Library Sciences and Bachelor in Library Sciences programmes, are required to bring CC (Colan Classification) book along with them to the examination centre.

6.0 Example for the calculation of marks based on assigned weightages

Consider a course “DCAP101” with following exam weightages:

Category of Course
Exam Weightage
CA ETE ETP
Course has both components theory and practical 20% 60% 20%

DCAP101 is a course with 4 credits. Thus, the course will have two assignments and marks of one best assignment will be considered towards grades and will be calculated as follows:

Assuming following marks obtained by the student in Continuous Assessment for this course:
In assignment-I 10 out of 20 marks
In assignment-II 15 out of 20 marks
CA marks considered for student = 15 Marks (Best of the 2 Assignments)
If in ETE- Theory, the student obtains 48 marks out of 80 and
In ETP- Practical, the student obtains 10 marks out of 20 as per the details below:

In this case, the consolidated evaluation of the students would yield the following score:

Component Actual Maximum Marks Actual Marks Obtained Weightage in % Weighted Marks Obtained
CA 20 15 20 15
ETE 80 48 60 (48/80)*60=36
ETP 20 10 20 10
  100 61
